Brevard College is a small, private, United Methodist, liberal arts college in Brevard, which is a town in Transylvania County, in the US state of North Carolina, with a population estimated at a number of more than 6600 inhabitants, during the 2005 census. Brevard serves as the county seat of Transylvania County and is nicknamed ''The Land of Waterfalls'', because of the numerous beautiful waterfalls in the area, which include, Connestee Falls, Looking Glass Falls and Sliding Rock.
Brevard College was established in 1934, through the merger of Rutherford College and Weaver College, and currently offers over 40 Majors and Minors, including Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. Its enrollment has been approximated at a number of about 700 students, and its faculty staff, at a number of 56.
The `crown jewel` of Brevard's campus is the Paul Porter Center for the Performing Arts, which hosts the the college's theatre program and a concert season that often includes world-renowned artists.
Brevard's athletic teams are known as the Tornados, which compete in NCAA Division II, in various sports, for both men and women, including in football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, golf soccer and several other sports. Their distinctive colors are blue and white and their motto is ''Cognosce ut prosis'', which is Latin for ''Learn in Order to Serve''.
